A customer of ours was given a macbook. He has been using windows since at least 95. His business uses just a single application. This application only works in windows. We discussed how he could get this to work on the Macbook. Our first recommendation was to use VMware Fusion. It allows a Virtual PC on the mac to run like a program designed for mac. I seen that work on a macbook before it works really well. Kudos points for VMware. We asked the him if he tried using the mac yet. Being the owner of a small business, we found out that he did not have the chance yet to try it. Having using windows for a long time, he felt that the Mac OS X was not for him. So we installed Vista on it directly. So it began. Ok… this is awesome, totally awesome. You’ve all seen Dell’s new computer commercial… it’s got a big blue robot, an awesome Kung Fu fight scene, and more. The extended version is genious. It boasts an amazingly cool soundtrack by the Flaming Lips. The song is called W.A.N.D. and it’s got a powerful message. Here’s the rub… The song is basically about taking down evil oppressive and minds and forces. Isn’t Dell one of the biggest and most aggressive computer companies in the multiverse? Let’s look at the lyrics a bit:
Time after time those fanatical minds
Try to rule all the world
Telling us all it’s them
Who’s in charge of it all
I’ve got a tricked out magic stick
That will make them all fall
We’ve got the power now
Mother*****, it’s where it belongs
You’ve got that right
(You’ve got the power in there)
You know that it is
(Waving your wand in the air)
They have their weapons
To solve all your questions
They don’t know what it’s for
(They don’t know what it’s for)
Why can’t they see that’s not power
That’s greed
To just want more and more?
Now here’s the rub… this song appears to be about fighting greed, and corruption, and it’s on a Dell commercial? Uh… Aren’t they the definition of corporate monopoly and greed in modern America?
I’m definately going to rant about this on the radio show… this is just awesome.
